g.%20Understanding%20how%20biodiversity%20sustains%20ecosystems%20under%20anthropogenic%20stressors%20and%20global%20environmental%20change%20will%20require%20new%20ways%20of%20deriving%20and%20applying%20biodiversity%20data.%20A%20major%20challenge%20is%20that%20biodiversity%20data%20and%20knowledge%20are%20scattered%2C%20biased%2C%20collected%20with%20numerous%20methods%2C%20and%20stored%20in%20inconsistent%20ways.%20The%20Group%20on%20Earth%20Observations%20Biodiversity%20Observation%20Network%20%28GEO%20BON%29%20has%20developed%20the%20Essential%20Biodiversity%20Variables%20%28EBVs%29%20as%20fundamental%20metrics%20to%20help%20aggregate%2C%20harmonize%2C%20and%20interpret%20biodiversity%20observation%20data%20from%20diverse%20sources.%20Mapping%20and%20analyzing%20EBVs%20can%20help%20to%20evaluate%20how%20aspects%20of%20biodiversity%20are%20distributed%20geographically%20and%20how%20they%20change%20over%20time.%20EBVs%20are%20also%20intended%20to%20serve%20as%20inputs%20and%20validation%20to%20forecast%20the%20status%20and%20trends%20of%20biodiversity%2C%20and%20to%20support%20policy%20and%20decision%20making.%20Here%2C%20we%20assess%20the%20feasibility%20of%20implementing%20Genetic%20Composition%20EBVs%20%28Genetic%20EBVs%29%2C%20which%20are%20metrics%20of%20within-species%20genetic%20variation.%20We%20review%20and%20bring%20together%20numerous%20areas%20of%20the%20field%20of%20genetics%20and%20evaluate%20how%20each%20contributes%20to%20global%20and%20regional%20genetic%20biodiversity%20monitoring%20with%20respect%20to%20theory%2C%20sampling%20logistics%2C%20metadata%2C%20archiving%2C%20data%20aggregation%2C%20modeling%2C%20and%20technological%20advances.%20We%20propose%20four%20Genetic%20EBVs%3A%20%28i%29%20Genetic%20Diversity%3B%20%28ii%29%20Genetic%20Differentiation%3B%20%28iii%29%20Inbreeding%3B%20and%20%28iv%29%20Effective%20Population%20Size%20%28Ne%29.%20We%20rank%20Genetic%20EBVs%20according%20to%20their%20relevance%2C%20sensitivity%20to%20change%2C%20generalizability%2C%20scalability%2C%20feasibility%20and%20data%20availability.%20We%20outline%20the%20workflow%20for%20generating%20genetic%20data%20underlying%20the%20Genetic%20EBVs%2C%20and%20review%20advances%20and%20needs%20in%20archiving%20genetic%20composition%20data%20and%20metadata.%20We%20discuss%20how%20Genetic%20EBVs%20can%20be%20operationalized%20by%20visualizing%20EBVs%20in%20space%20and%20time%20across%20species%20and%20by%20forecasting%20Genetic%20EBVs%20beyond%20current%20observations%20using%20various%20modeling%20approaches.%20Our%20review%20then%20explores%20challenges%20of%20aggregation%2C%20standardization%2C%20and%20costs%20of%20operationalizing%20the%20Genetic%20EBVs%2C%20as%20well%20as%20future%20directions%20and%20opportunities%20to%20maximize%20their%20uptake%20globally%20in%20research%20and%20policy.%20The%20collection%2C%20annotation%2C%20and%20availability%20of%20genetic%20data%20has%20made%20major%20advances%20in%20the%20past%20decade%2C%20each%20of%20which%20contributes%20to%20the%20practical%20and%20standardized%20framework%20for%20large-scale%20genetic%20observation%20reporting.%20Rapid%20advances%20in%20DNA%20sequencing%20technology%20present%20new%20opportunities%2C%20but%20also%20challenges%20for%20operationalizing%20Genetic%20EBVs%20for%20biodiversity%20monitoring%20regionally%20and%20globally.%20With%20these%20advances%2C%20genetic%20composition%20monitoring%20is%20starting%20to%20be%20integrated%20into%20global%20conservation%20policy%2C%20which%20can%20help%20support%20the%20foundation%20of%20all%20biodiversity%20and%20species%27%20long-term%20persistence%20in%20the%20face%20of%20environmental%20change.%20We%20conclude%20with%20a%20summary%20of%20concrete%20steps%20for%20researchers%20and%20policy%20makers%20for%20advancing%20operationalization%20of%20Genetic%20EBVs.%20The%20technical%20and%20analytical%20foundations%20of%20Genetic%20EBVs%20are%20well%20developed%2C%20and%20conservation%20practitioners%20should%20anticipate%20their%20increasing%20application%20as%20efforts%20emerge%20to%20scale%20up%20genetic%20biodiversity%20monitoring%20regionally%20and%20globally.%22%2C%22date%22%3A%222022%5C%2F08%5C%2F01%22%2C%22language%22%3A%22%22%2C%22DOI%22%3A%22https%3A%5C%2F%5C%2Fdoi.org%5C%2F10.1111%5C%2Fbrv.12852%22%2C%22ISSN%22%3A%221464-7931%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22%22%2C%22collections%22%3A%5B%225QLERWWI%22%5D%2C%22dateModified%22%3A%222023-05-03T21%3A24%3A43Z%22%7D%7D%2C%7B%22key%22%3A%22ZXLLQHSF%22%2C%22library%22%3A%7B%22id%22%3A9129767%7D%2C%22meta%22%3A%7B%22creatorSummary%22%3A%22Louis%20et%20al.%22%2C%22parsedDate%22%3A%222021-10%22%2C%22numChildren%22%3A0%7D%2C%22bib%22%3A%22%3Cdiv%20class%3D%5C%22csl-bib-body%5C%22%20style%3D%5C%22line-height%3A%202%3B%20padding-left%3A%201em%3B%20text-indent%3A-1em%3B%5C%22%3E%5Cn%20%20%3Cdiv%20class%3D%5C%22csl-entry%5C%22%3ELouis%2C%20M.%2C%20Galimberti%2C%20M.%2C%20%3Cstrong%3EArcher%3C%5C%2Fstrong%3E%2C%20F.%2C%20Berrow%2C%20S.%2C%20Brownlow%2C%20A.%2C%20Fallon%2C%2
